How to purchase our wine
We have two tasting rooms in Vermont - one at the winery in Putney and one in the Quechee General Store. Our wines and liqueurs are available in stores throughout Vermont. Some of our liqueurs are also available in New Hampshire, and our wines can be ordered on our website and shipped to 37 states. See our website for more information.
We craft a collection of unique wines and liqueurs.
What surprises many people is that Putney Mountain Wines are made not from grapes, but from fresh produce grown by local farmers and growers.
Learning our Craft
We learned to make wine and liqueurs by reading and learning from others, along with vivid culinary imaginations, and of course, trial and error.
Every year or two we come up with a new product and start learning again. We began with sparkling apple wines, moved on from one fruit wine to another and then to an array of liqueurs and apple brandy.
We take great pride in crafting unique products that showcase the tastes of the region. Our winemakers have honed their craft over more than a decade, with many of those years spent learning from the master – winery founder, Charles Dodge.
our favorite crafting “Tool”
Our favorite “tool” is the extraordinary mix of local ingredients that bring our wines and liqueurs to life.
We source fruits, maple syrup, honey, root (ginger), and vegetable (rhubarb) from different farmers and orchardists in our corner of New England.
As for the one ingredient that comes from “away”, we get premium cacao nibs for our decadent Simply Chocolate liqueur through Tavernier Chocolates in Brattleboro.
We believe that the best wine is made from produce of the region. The Connecticut River valley is home to world-class fruit production. What makes our wines and liqueurs special is “the taste of the place.”
THE PRIDE OF EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP
With the retirement of winery founders Charles and Kate Dodge in 2025, the employees joined together to purchase Putney Mountain Winery & Spirits. The business is now operated as an employee-owned cooperative with the values of equity, sustainability, and empowerment. It is an honor to carry forward the legacy of this community-focused business.
